On Being White-Passing →
suzy-x: ihavethisblog: As white-passing people of color, we have our own set of struggles. We have to hear all the horrible, racist things that our white friends (and sometimes even our not-white friends) say about people of color that they wouldn’t dare say if we were visible poc. And because we look white, we are expected to be okay with it. We are expected to understand and sympathize with...

The Trouble with Forgiveness by Andie Lyons →
I’ve spent so many muddy hours wallowing in self-imposed guilt and shame over a million petty and self perceived infractions that when I reached my mid-twenties, I didn’t really know there were any other feelings to have about myself. I couched my guilt and shame in the political rhetoric of ‘accountability,’ which I mostly perverted into another tool to remind myself of...

getting serious
Has anyone done a FHA/non occupant co-borrower loan (also commonly referred to as “kiddie condo”)? I’m seriously considering initiating the process this year, but I want to hear from some people who’ve done it (other than the one punkhouselandlord-fail case I know of).

nesting fantasy
Unraveled (frogged) a goodwill sweater yesterday all day both before and after work, and now  I have probably three pounds of worsted wool. I think I finally have motivation to knit a sweater. Also I put my filing system together, and ordered my textbooks, and set my work schedule up for school. Also have an appointment with Home buying assistance in mid January.

What sewing machine to get?
Dear Tumblr, This christmas, in addition to ten dollars from my grandma* I also recieved money to buy a sewing machine. And I want to know what <150$ starter machine you recommend. I’m looking for pretty basic stitches, but I don’t want a lot of tension problems that will keep me from using it or to find I can’t get through a little felt cause it’s too wimpy.  So,...

there's our catastrophe: so, reformed abusers →
so, reformed abusers desliz: I was going to post a personal account, but realized I am not ready to do that. So here’s some bullet points: 1. Many modern feminists are terrified of being classed as man-hating, prudish dykes, so there is a tendency to fawn over “reformed” men and “male feminists”. It is not surprising that many of the men who insert themselves into these spaces tend to be...

ourcatastrophe: context. there has been a lot of feminist writing about harm you might not know you’re doing. like, why you should pay more attention to your sexual partner’s non-verbal signals because they might be verbally consenting but not actually comfortable with what’s happening, stuff like that. how…
